Southern Synesthesia
"syn·es·the·sia | noun. Def: The production of a sense impression relating to one sense or
part of the body by stimulation of another sense or part of the body.
Have you ever heard a sound and immediately associated a color with that sound? That
is synesthesia at work: Our brains associating colors with different senses and
experiences. This phenomenon is most common with music.
Music has long been at the core of southern culture. It is the birthplace of jazz, bluegrass, and country. This series showcases celebrated musicians who have shaped southern and pop culture throughout the 20th and 21st century. The color palette of each work attempts to capture the distinct style and sound of each artist, as I hear them."
