I’m Colie Taylor, and I’ve been an artist for as long as I can remember. I grew up taking after school art classes with a close group of friends, where I fell in love with creating while learning the foundational skills of art. That early passion led me to study at the University of Colorado Boulder, where I majored in studio art, earned a minor in art history, and completed my teaching degree.
After graduating, I spent several years teaching 3rd grade and earned my Master’s in Literacy Instruction. My focus had shifted but I always tried to incorporate art into my life wherever I could. It wasn’t until 2020 while everyone was quarantining that I realized I wanted to bring back art into my life and began painting every day. I became a K-5th grade art teacher as I continued to grow my portfolio. Teaching allowed me to stay connected to creativity, but it was also time consuming, and I found myself carving out time to paint only on weekends and after school whenever possible. While I loved working with students, I constantly felt pulled toward my own art practice and knew I wanted more time and space to fully explore it.
After having my son, Briggs, I made the decision to step away from the classroom, become a full-time artist, and embrace my role as a stay-at-home mom. Choosing to pursue my art professionally felt like a natural progression of years spent building my practice alongside teaching.
Today, my work blends realistic painting with mixed media, collage, and text. I’m driven by a love of experimentation, layering, and storytelling. I’m always exploring new materials, taking creative risks, and pushing myself to grow. My subject matter has evolved through multiple collections, from ski girls, cars, and western-inspired pieces to superheroes, florals, and landscapes, each series reflecting a different season of inspiration. I especially love creating commissioned work and collaborating closely with clients to turn meaningful ideas, memories, and visions into unique works of art. Every piece I create is layered, intentional, and rooted in storytelling.
